good morning, that is right, at the beginning of this week oikos university was a large crime scene and now is a growing memorial for those seven victims. people from all over have dropped off candles, cards, stuffed animals, all in a memorial to the victims of the shooting. the students and staff were allowed back to the school yesterday just for a brief moment. only to get their belongings. but the crime scene tape is up this morning an oakland police are still calling it a large crime scene and they do not know when students will be allowed to return. they still have not recovered that murder weapon, a semiautomatic weapon. there were combing the oakland estuary looking for that and they got a tip yesterday that it was in a trash can that actually turned out to be not the case. we spoke to the dean of oikos university through a translator, and he recalled the events of that tragic day. i heard a lot of gunshots, around five or six shots. i was trapped in the area so wh

ktvu s jade hernandez is there right now. jade, what s the very latest? what s happening? reporter: well, we just spoke with the san rafael spokeswoman. we ll hear from her in a second. we re live at the command post. david, as you mentioned, it s good news for commuters, westbound 580 has reopened but police say this morning the hostage situation is still going on inside of this hotel you see right behind me. that is the extended stay hotel here in san rafael. around midnight before the california highway patrol reopened the freeway, police play placed an eight by 10 metal plate in front of the hotel room where the man is believed to be holed up. the plate acts as a barrier or shield for nearby freeway traffic. yesterday after hours of negotiation s.w.a.t team members broke a ground-floor level at the hotel. police say the man is on the second floor. initially officers tracked him to this spot after a stabbing of a grocery store worker during a shoplifting incident on sund
police arrested after a high speed chase that ended at west street and macarthur boulevard. i looked out the window and this car buzzed by. what s going on? police started chasing the suspect because his car matched the description of a getaway car used after an armed robbery at both the high street pharmacies this afternoon. when they tried to pull the car over, this is what happened. he was trying to turn left but instead at the second arrow, he started sliding and got to this gravel and lost control and jumped the curb. jumped up and hit the pole here. he jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the yard. that s where police found him. they also found bottles of medicine in his car, medication taken from at least one of the pharmacies that had been robbed. while police gathered evidence, a sexual assault investigator also arrived on the scene. earlier today, a woman was sexually assaulted during a home invasion robbery on wilton avenue in the oakland hills. we lo
