MASSILLON City Council newcomer Jamie Slutz was sworn last week as the city s newest public official.
Massillon Municipal Judge Edward Elum administered the swearing in for Slutz, R-at large, who was flanked by his wife, Christie, during the ceremony held inside a municipal courtroom. He s scheduled to participate in council s next regular meeting, which is Tuesday.
Slutz, a retired Massillon police officer who served 22 years, is replacing former Councilwoman Nancy Halter, R-at large, who resigned in early December. He was the majority choice among Stark County GOP committee members for the vacant seat, receiving eight of 10 votes to fill the seat.
