Board of Education President Brandon Ewing, Superintendent Theresa Plascencia and community members expressed their feelings about the two deaths and what to do about gun violence at a meeting Tuesday.
Ewing was unanimously reelected president of the Board of Education by his peers Wednesday at the Lincoln Center administration building in Waukegan after two newly elected board members Carolina Fabian and Christine Lensing were seated.
Incumbents Lucy Leguizamo and Rick Riddle along with first-time board candidates Carolina Fabian, Khershuana Hanna, Christine Lensing and Randy Sobecki are competing for the three available positions in the April 4 general election with different approaches to schooling.
Along with the recommending the project’s approval, the committee unanimously recommended the council deny a request to designate the wall in front of the current Lincoln Center administration building on Sheridan Road a historic landmark.
Interim Police Chief Keith Zupec announced the new policies during a Waukegan City Council meeting Monday at City Hall in the wake of the arrest and incarceration of Waukegan High School freshman Martell Williams, 15, for attempted murder, which turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
