Kerala polls: CM Pinarayi Vijayan among CPI(M) candidates, Thomas Isaac to not contest elections

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and six of his Cabinet ministers are among the candidates that the party has fielded. Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, Industries and Sports Minister EP Jayarajan, Public Works Minister G Sudhakaran, Law Minister AK Balan and Education Minister C Raveendranath have not been given election tickets. The party stuck to its rule to not provide seats to candidates who have contested and won elections twice. A total of 33 sitting MLAs did not get election tickets.

Kerala Assembly Polls: CPI-M announces 83 candidates, 5 ministers not on list ANI | Updated: Mar 10, 2021 15:36 IST Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], March 10 (ANI): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday announced the list of 83 candidates out of 85 seats in it is contesting in the upcoming Assembly polls in Kerala. Five ministers of the Kerala Government and 33 sitting MLAs of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) will not be in the fray. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) convenor and acting CPI-M state secretary A Vijayaraghavan said, Out of 83 candidates 74 candidates are contesting in party symbols, nine candidates are CPI-M supported independent candidates. With regard to two seats Manjeshwaram and Devikulam we will announce the names later, he said adding that the decision is due to a large per cent of linguistic minorities and Tamil migrant workers in these constituencies respectively.

Amidst protest from cadres over candidates selection, CPI(M) may announce final list tomorrow

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], March 9 (ANI) Although the discontent brewing inside the CPI(M) over candidates selection spilled out in open with a protest held in Ponnani in Malappuram and Kuttiady in Kozhikode, while posters opposing the omission of senior party leaders appeared in Alappuzha, the party is likely to go by its diktat of not fielding candidates who faced polls two consecutive terms.
