Education Minister Yoav Galant on Wednesday called for all schools across Israel to reopen Sunday, regardless of local coronavirus infection rates.
He was joined in his call by Haim Bibas, director of the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel. At present, schools have reopened in areas with relatively low coronavirus infection rates or where a high proportion of the local population has been vaccinated against COVID-19.

(March 3, 2021 / JNS) Yehuda Meshi Zahav, founder and chairman of the ZAKA rescue organization, was tapped for the 2021 Israel Prize in the category of “Lifetime Achievement and Special Contribution to Society and the State,” Israeli Education Minister Yoav Galant announced on Tuesday.

Israel accused Iran of attacking one of its cargo ships in the Gulf of Oman last week, as tensions mount over the U.S.’s desire to rejoin a nuclear deal with Tehran.
“It was indeed an act by Iran, that’s clear,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday in an interview with Kan radio, a local station. Iran “is Israel’s greatest enemy and we are striking it across the region.”
Israeli media reported that the country launched missile strikes on Iranian targets in Syria over the weekend in response to the assault on the ship. Israel’s military did not comment.
