Todd Warner, R-Chapel Hill, officially passed his first bill as a member of the 112th Tennessee General Assembly and the House Republican Caucus. House Bill 446 passed the House floor on Thursday, April 29. House Bill 446, also called the ‘Tennessee Firearm Protection Act,’ prohibits any government entity from taking a firearm from a citizen. The bill prohibits the state or local government body from allocating personnel, public funds to regulate ownership, use, sale or possession of firearms, ammunition or firearm accessories. “This legislation takes a strong stand for our Second Amendment right to protect our families and loved ones while preventing the state from participating in federal regulations that infringe upon our right to bear arms,” Warner said. “I applaud my colleagues in the General Assembly for their support of this bill and

Ragan: Update on local road projects

Ragan: Update on local road projects The Oak Ridger Tennessee Rep. John Ragan, R-Oak Ridge, on Thursday provided an update on several highway projects managed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation in Anderson County. More than a dozen construction projects totaling more than $32 million are moving forward, which are expected to improve safety and support economic growth. “I’m glad to see we’re making progress on these critical projects that will help improve traffic and road safety for residents of Anderson County,” Ragan said in a news release. “I appreciate the work of our local officials and am grateful for TDOT’s commitment in moving these projects forward.”

Lundberg tapped deputy Senate speaker in committee assignments

State Sen. Jon Lundberg, R-Bristol, has been named deputy speaker of the Tennessee Senate. Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, R-Oak Ridge, also named the 4th District senator as a member of the powerful Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee. Lundberg will continue to serve as first vice chair of Senate Education Committee, and as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He represents parts of Carter, Johnson and Sullivan counties. State Sen. Jon Lundberg, R-Bristol. McNally has also re-appointed state Sen. Rusty Crowe, R-Johnson City, as chairman of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee. Crowe, who represents the 3rd District of Carter, Unicoi and Washington counties, will also return as a member of the Senate’s Education and Government Operations committees.
