Announcements Sixth & Vine Wine Bar and Restaurant at 209 6th St. in Winston-Salem will host a brunch event from noon to 3 p.m. July 18. The event centerpiece is chef Belinda Smith-Sullivan’s recent cookbook, “Let’s Brunch,” that will provide Sixth and Vine chef Ebony Warfield with plenty of options for a special menu for diners. Smith-Sullivan, who has been busy establishing a residence in Winston-Salem during the pandemic, will be on hand to sign copies of “Let’s Brunch,” and visit with diners. Popular local chef, Michael Spencer, will be stepping outside his usual persona to provide music under the Sixth and Vine gazebo.

Cooper Announces $51M In Grants For Education, Student Financial Aid by Neal Charnoff 10:14am May 25, 2021 Governor Roy Cooper has announced emergency education funding to help students access and complete college. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster) Governor Roy Cooper has announced a $51.4 million investment toward education grants and student financial aid.  The funding is meant to help boost college accessibility as the state emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. The bulk of the money will be directed toward programs that assist low and middle-income families in paying for a college education. $5 million will support mental health programs in state schools, while over $2 million will be invested in developing equity initiatives for both K-12 and postsecondary students.

Melissa Zimmerman, Central High School, Tackling Racial Injustices in Our Community, $396. Bell Grants are funded through the Robert P. Bell Teacher Grants Fund at the Community Foundation. This fund ensures that teachers have access to grants to help engage their students in meaningful ways for years to come. Individuals can contribute to the endowment fund to memorialize a special teacher, honor a retiring teacher or a teacher celebrating a work
