The Education Foundation of Greenville (EFG) and the Greenville Area Community Foundation (GACF) are pleased to announce grant awards totaling more than $300,000 to support local education programs.
If there was to be any stylish accessory for students who attended this year’s senior prom at Greenville High School, it came in the form of protection from the rain. For the 90-plus students who first attended this year’s “Pre-Prom Party” at Frugthaven Farm, numerous umbrellas in a variety of sizes and colors were on display as rain poured down throughout the rustic venue.
While nine local stars put themselves out of their comfort zone to entertain the public with a variety of unique dance performances Saturday evening, the ultimate star of the second annual Dancing with the Local Stars show left an audience of more than 700 spectators gasping and cheering in a collective of shock and excitement. That star came in the form of not one single act on stage, but from the collective effort of everyone involved as event co-hosts Mike Walsh and Matt Gilbertson revealed to the crowd that the previous record of $30,048 in funds raised last year for the Education Foundation of Greenville to be used for mental health programs and initiatives had been broken.
One year ago, upon introducing a creative source of fundraising and entertainment, Miranda Curry had no idea how receptive this community might be to a brand new concept “Dancing with the Local Stars.” With nine local “stars” paired with professional dancers, the show witnessed nothing but success, generating more than $30,000 for the Education Foundation of Greenville in front of a sold-out show of more than 700 spectators.
