The Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ)’s Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) programme has hosted experts to coach job seekers on how to surmount the hurdles of the labour market in the world of remote work.
The summit was held virtually, on Wednesday, in Edo State and featured opportunities for job seekers to engage with recruiters with a chance of landing employment during the event.
The Chief Executive Officer, Temploy Nigeria, Junyin Benson, noted that it was necessary for job seekers to identify temporary employment opportunities in the era of remote work, so as to develop relevant skills, gain experience and contribute to economic growth in the state.
The Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) in collaboration with German development agency, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) has trained and graduated 100 youths on the production of leather products.
The intensive workshop, which lasted for over three months, engaged the youths in the area of manufacturing handbags, shoes, belt, wallets and other leather items.
Managing Director, Edojobs, Ukinebo Dare, said the training was part of the state government’s determination to equip youths with skills to make them self-reliant.
Dare noted that EdoJobs is partnering with several organisations in the state to build the capacity of youths and other business owners to run successful businesses in order to expand the economic base of the state.
Decagon, elite software engineer training firm, has commenced recruitment for the second batch of software engineers for Edo Tech Park, an initiative of the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki-led administration.
Managing Director, Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs), Mrs. Dare Ukinebo, who disclosed this to journalists, said the first cohorts has already commenced 6-month training with Decagon and would soon be certified to undertake jobs for local and international companies.
According to her, “We are calling for applications for the second cohort of trainees for the Edo Tech Park project. We concluded recruitment for the first batch months ago and they have already commenced training.
In line with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s drive to make Edo a hub for Information Communication Technology (ICT) and innovation talent in Nigeria, leading software engineering firm, Decagon, has concluded the screening of candidates for the Edo Tech Park.
The park, set to open in Benin City, is aimed at training at least 15,000 top-rate tech talents that would work remotely from the city for clients across the world.
Managing Director of Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs), Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, said the training programme is the first of its kind in the state and would leverage the over 400km fibre optic cable infrastructure to groom top-of-the-range tech engineers that can compete globally.
