Woodrow Adams Jr. of Worcester seeks donations for backpack drive

WORCESTER As he eulogized his father, a beloved deacon described as the “Mayor of Jaques Avenue,” four months ago, Woodrow Adams Jr. made a vow.  The Worcester court officer, who’d lost not only his dad but also his uncle and grandmother in a terrible fire, would keep their legacies alive by continuing on the path of serving others.  With the help of the community, Adams is hoping next month to help 3,000.  His nonprofit, 508 Forever Young, is asking for help filling 3,000 backpacks with school supplies for a Back to School Bash slated for Aug. 28 at Fuller Family Park on Murray Avenue.

Ceremony honors those who tragically lost their lives due to devastating, nondiscriminatory and destructive wrath of fire

WORCESTER  Despite frigid temperatures, a small group gathered Sunday around a large, black granite monument on the corner of Main and Agawam streets to honor and remember those who tragically lost their lives to the devastating, nondiscriminatory and destructive wrath of fire. William T. Breault, chairman of the Main South Alliance of Public Safety, led the solemn ceremony that has been held every March 7 since the monument was dedicated in 1992 to recognize the fatal fire two years earlier at 21 Florence St., in which four people perished. Each year on March 7, names of those who died the previous year are added to the cold slab of stone, forever etched as a constant reminder of the devastating, non-discriminatory wrath of fire.
