On this day: 22 April 1980 Architectural photographer Sam Lambert’s death was marked by the publication of this image of George’s Dock Ventilation Building in Liverpool Source:Sam Lambert In its 22 April 1980 issue, the AJ printed a double-page spread of work by architectural photographer and former AJ news editor Sam Lambert following his death, aged 54. Lambert’s photographs appeared in the AJ and The Architectural Review and he also worked with the Architectural Association, the British Travel and Holidays Association and many architectural practices – eventually in colour! Artist Abbot Fuller Graves was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts and had originally studied to become an architect. However, a latent interest in floral still-life painting prompted him to travel to Paris, France 1884 for art study, where he roomed with another Boston artist, Edmund Charles Tarbell.
