Superintendent updates families on Stage 2 of Edmonds School District re-entry plan Posted: February 3, 2021 Model of the four-stage re-entry plan for Edmonds School District students. After taking the first steps to reopening school buildings, the Edmonds School District is still working toward returning more students to in-person learning, the district’s superintendent says. In a letter addressed to district families, Superintendent Gustavo Balderas updated families on plans to move into Stage 2 of the staff’s four-stage plan to reopen schools. Under Stage 1, 150 students enrolled in special education programs returned to in-person learning. In Stage 2, Balderas said more special education programs will be offered in-person.

(Photos courtesy of the Edmonds School District) As most students continue to complete school work remotely, the Edmonds School District has repurposed an unoccupied school building to provide a space for students who do not have a place to study. Edmonds Hub (also known as eHub) offers students who qualify for McKinney-Vento and foster care a place to study and complete class work. Located in the former Alderwood Middle School building in Lynnwood, the site also provides students access to meals, stable technology including Wi-Fi, tutoring, educational support materials and laundry services.

Jay Inslee to move school staff up in the state’s COVID-19 vaccination timeline to assist with the districts’ efforts to bring students back into the classroom. Under the state’s existing guidance for Phase B1, school employees 50 years old and older will be eligible for vaccines starting in February. A larger group of educators would not qualify until April, under Phase B4. The Jan. 13 letter, signed by Mukilteo School District Superintendent Alison Brynelson, Edmonds School District Superintendent Gustavo Balderas and Everett Public Schools Superintendent Ian Saltzman, notes that a typical elementary classroom teacher “will, at a minimum, be in a classroom with more than 10 students for several hours each day and be exposed to their ‘contact bu
