Both Save Our Wards and Waukegan Forward are making final pushes to sway voters before the polls close for the general election at 7 p.m. on April 4 in Lake County, placing signs around the city and talking to voters.
At least three new aldermen will join the Waukegan City Council in May after a pair of incumbents were ousted in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, and there will be a new face on the North Chicago City Council as well.
The Temporary by American Place officially opened Friday in Waukegan welcoming nearly 10,000 visitors through 4 a.m. Sunday, including 400 invited guests at a pre-opening gala, to its gaming tables, slot machines and restaurant, starting the era of casino gaming in Lake County.
The City Council unanimously approved two ordinances regulating both outdoor dining and food trucks Tuesday at City Hall creating an even playing field for all restaurants, but it voted 6-3 against a third measure setting fees for the eateries to operate outside.
Independent candidates in Waukegan and North Chicago, contenders for offices in other municipalities in Lake County as well as people running for other public positions like school boards, park boards, library boards and other positions can begin filing petitions Dec. 12 and have until 5 p.m. Dec. 19 to file in the appropriate place.
