The Region of Waterloo calls the number of people experiencing homelessness locally - "unprecedented." So they re setting up a new emergency shelter beside Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute in Kitchener.
Fencing has been erected around a growing homeless encampment located at 150 Main Street in Cambridge. The fence surrounds several tents which are set up in a parking lot near a Waterloo region social service building.
The Region of Waterloo said it doesn't plan to have bylaw or police at the site of a Kitchener encampment on June 30, the day people have been told they're required to leave the property. About 60 people have set up tents and are living on the Victoria Street property.
