Both incumbent Democratic County Executive Steuart Pittman and his Republican challenger, Edgewater County Council member Jessica Haire, said they would prioritize boosting public safety recruitment and maintaining high wages for sworn police officers. But they diverged on how else to tackle criminal conduct from the executive’s office.
Data published by the Maryland State Board of Elections shows Haire won six of seven council districts, each by at least 100 votes and one by as many as 1,000 votes.
The election now rests in the hands of the 21% who said they’re not favoring a candidate at this time and the 15% who said they are still to unfamiliar with the candidates. It will also depend on how many of each candidate’s supporters actually show up to the polls.
