It might not have seemed likely early in the pandemic, but the 55th Super Bowl Sunday is upon us yet again. Each year advertisers pull out all the stops to entertain the crowd of 100 million viewers expected to tune in to the CBS broadcast on Sunday. This year there are more than 20 newcomers as well as old favorites. And as always, expect some surprises, too. Scroll down to view the commercials.
The Super Bowl is the season-ending championship game of football in the USA. It’s a mixture of sports and entertainment that’s hard to beat, with the famous “halftime show” rivaling most live concerts (Prince’s performance at Super Bowl XLI a particular highlight).
Unsurprisingly, it’s also one of the most-watched single sporting events globally, and nearly a third of the USA tunes in on the day. That also makes it an advertising Holy Grail; with all those eyes on screens throughout the four-hour-plus show, companies will pay huge sums to get their commercials on air. One 30-second slot is reportedly worth $5.5m, and for those who have the ad budget, it’s a must.
In the 60-second commercial, we see Kim as the mother of Edgar Scissorhands (Chalamet), the son of Depp s title character, as he struggles to get to grips with his scissor blade fingers in a number of everyday situations, like riding a bus and catching a football. However, he s rather adept at making artistic sandwiches.
After seeing her son playing a virtual reality racing game, Kim naturally comes up with the idea to buy him a Cadillac LYRIQ crossover, an all-electric vehicle that includes a hands-free driving system. CadillacYouTube
Speaking about the ad, Tim Burton said in a statement: It s rare when a work you re proud of continues to live on and evolve with the times, even after 30 years.
