LOCAL VOICES
The San Diego-based destroyer Decatur, which returned from deployment to the western Pacific less than two weeks ago, echoed with cheers Sunday night when President Barack Obama announced that U.S. forces had killed Osama bin Laden.
“This is a great victory for the U.S. military and for the American people. Sept. 11 is still fresh in my mind. I remember my initial reaction of sadness, and what was to come in the future. I told my guys, ‘We do this for a reason, and that is to defend our country.’”
