Locarno Fest Adds Section Dedicated to Shorts by Established Auteurs Nick Vivarelli, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail The Locarno Film Festival is adding a new competitive section dedicated to shorts by established filmmakers, in one of the first moves made by new artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro. Nazzaro, a former Venice Critics’ Week chief who was appointed to head Locarno in November, is starting to put his stamp on the prominent Swiss event dedicated to indie cinema by launching the new section, which “will open a significant window of opportunity for high-profile directors experimenting in new and innovative forms and formats.”  More from Variety

Locarno unveils new selection committees for 2021 edition

Locarno 2021 selection committees French-Chilean film critic and consultant Pamela Biénzobas, Festival Scope co-founder and festival programmer Mathilde Henrot and Italian critic Giovanni Marchini Camia have been named as members of Locarno’s new selection committees for its 2021 edition. The new committee members have been handpicked by its recently appointed new artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro. “Setting up a new team with the right skills, know-how and motivation to work with the artistic director is a crucial step. This is a talented line-up of film industry professionals, whose expertise is internationally recognized,” said Nazzaro. The announcement comes six weeks after Nazzaro’s whirlwind appointment to his new Locarno role, following the sudden, unexpected departure of previous artistic director Lili Hinstin in September after just two editions in the job.
