several times one of the victims broke down in tears as he faced the gunman, the former police officer who shot him six times. i ll have the remnants of this event until the day i die. reporter: anger, pain, frustration. he has not been the same since he sat in the car with his friend two years ago. the men just finished a hockey game and were stopped at a red light at sixth and lincoln when then nypd police officer brendon cronin who finished training and had been drinking walked up to the car, firing 14 shots, six riddled joseph s body. robert was not hit. i can still remember the sound of the gunshots and the glass breaking. you know, joe screaming next to me. reporter: before learning his sentence, cronin who often looked down and showed no emotion apologized to his wife, his family and the two strangers to express and offer the most heart felt apology. i m so very sorry. his apology is no way accepted by me. reporter: just empty words for these two victim w
