Many Hillsborough County teachers relieved to get first vaccine dose

TAMPA, Fla. - Brent Bowman and his wife Leah are teachers at Martinez Middle School. They were among those who used their teacher workday Monday to get their first round of the Pfizer COVID-19vaccine. It is an extra insurance policy, feels good, said Brent.
Hillsborough County is using the Ed Radice and Vance Vogel Sports Complexes as vaccine sites for the newly expanded eligibility.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. The Ed Radice Sports Complex is one of two Hillsborough County sites offering the vaccine to teachers under 50 years old and the county expects this site to be flooded with teachers on Monday because they have the day off for the Florida Strawberry Festival Day.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL One year after the first case of coronavirus was confirmed in Hillsborough County, the total number of local cases has reached 111,990, more than 1,520 people have died and the positivity rate continues to hover around 8 percent, health officials told Hillsborough County commissioners this week.
The county s COVID-19 dashboard shows that more than 73,800 people have been fully vaccinated with both their first and second doses.
This number will climb higher now that supplies of the vaccine are increasing, multiple government-run vaccination clinics are now open, and the state has expanded eligibility to additional groups, Hillsborough County Emergency Management Director Tim Dudley told commissioners.
