Alternate side parking getting another look in Schenectady; Could help in future snow removal, officials say | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Schenectady Shares0 SCHENECTADY After getting lashed by the public over its response to last week’s winter storm, the city is considering the launching of an alternate side parking pilot program in the city’s Bellevue neighborhood. Many streets in the neighborhood already contain that designation, city Signals Superintendent John Coluccio told the City Council on Monday, making it a prime spot to roll out the concept. Yet officials acknowledged the designation is not widely enforced. Since Bellevue is the furthest away from the city’s Department of Public Works headquarters on Foster Avenue in the city’s Northside, it’s advantageous for city crews to study ways to avoid making treks back-and-forth during heavy snowfalls, Coluccio said.

Schenectady To See Two Vacancies On City Council

2:54 A Schenectady City Councilor’s resignation will create a second vacancy on the legislative body in the coming weeks. Earlier this month, Schenectady Democratic City Councilor Leesa Perazzo announced that she would soon step down from her position as she prepares for a move to Saratoga Springs. This week, councilor Ed Kosiur announced that he too would be leaving his seat. In a story first reported by the Daily Gazette, Kosiur announced he would leave his city council seat on January 23rd. Kosiur said in a statement it was honor to serve the community and that he would “look forward to continuing to volunteer in the community and also to enjoy my retirement years with my wife, children, and grandchildren.”

Kosiur will step down from his City Council seat as well as his position as Assistant to the Commissioner of Social Services for Youth Development on Jan. 23. The move caps 30 years of government service. “As I recover from my second knee replacement operation, I look forward to continuing to volunteer in the community and also to enjoy my retirement years with my wife, children, and grandchildren,” Kosiur said. “It has been an honor to serve this community.”

Some names being mentioned as possible successors to Perazzo and Kosiur  include Damonni Farley, William Rivas , both active members of the community; Carl Williams, a member of the city Civilian Police Review Board(CPRB); Thearse McCalmon, who nearly upset the mayor in  primary election; Haileab Samuel who serves on the Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority, and Omar McGill, acting chairman of  the county Human Rights Commission.
