LAS VEGAS – Retired Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh locked himself in a storage shed moments before the Connecticut fire that killed him, according to authorities.
In a report released Tuesday, New London Fire investigators revealed Hsieh had made a camp with a blanket in the shed full of pool noodles and beach chairs.
The Connecticut state medical examiner’s office said Hsieh, who lived in Las Vegas, died Nov. 27 after being rescued and hospitalized following a fire in New London, Connecticut, on Nov. 18. He was 46.
Hsieh was staying at the home of a friend, Rachael Brown, and had gotten into an argument with her the night of the fire about the cleanliness of the house, another friend told investigators. After arguing, Hsieh went to the shed attached to the side of the home to sleep, the friend said.

LAS VEGAS – Sheldon Adelson – the billionaire founder and CEO of Las Vegas Sands and one of President Donald Trump s largest donors – has died at the age of 87 of complications related to treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, the casino company announced Tuesday.
At one point the third-richest man in the world, Adelson brought singing gondoliers to the Las Vegas Strip and went all-in betting Asia would be a bigger jackpot than Sin City. In his later years, he became widely known for his political activism, including his donations to Trump and other Republicans as well as his support for Israel.
Las Vegas hotels have reopened in phases since the gambling mecca began welcoming tourists again in June, but visitors planning a trip in early 2021 might find some of their favorites partially closed again as pandemic travel remains sluggish.
The Mirage, which bills itself as the original mega-resort on the Las Vegas Strip, this week announced that it will be accepting only reservations for Thursday through Sunday stays beginning Jan. 4.
And unlike a midweek hotel closure that took effect after Thanksgiving, this closure will encompass the whole place. Mirage s casino, restaurants, spa and signature volcano attraction will be closed from Monday at noon through Thursday at noon into February.
