The state of california has been in a severe drought for several years and has been under a state of emergency declared by governor jerry brown in january of 2014. Lack of rain, only 44 of the season average during these dry years. Here in Santa Clara County, most of the water is imported, half coming from the deltas aqueducts carrying water from snow and rainfall in the sierras, the other half from water pumped out of the ground. Most of our water and most people dont know this most of our water actually comes from outside of the county. So, about 55 of it actually comes from outside of the county. Most of it comes from the sacramento san joaquin delta. California is estimated to have used 81,000 acre feet of ground water storage in 2014. Thats enough for 81,000 suburban households in one year.
