no, has it ever deficits have gone up since reagan, when has it ever solved the deficit problem. martha: all right, ed. the fact is, in 2007, we had more revenue coming to the federal treasury, than at any time in the history of the united states of america. under those that tax relief because and bush spin it on medicare and a bunch of things. and. i didn t interrupt you, alan. okayed. when you spouted off erroneously. the fact is we had more revenue coming to the federal treasury in 2007 than any other year in the history of the u.s.a. and that was a result of 54 months of uninterrupted job creation and the president was right to extend the tax relief and not raise taxes when we re trying to get our economy growing again and he was clear in the state of the union response he s not serious about deficit reduction and addressing the debts that doubled en five years under his budget and tripled in ten years under his budget, and, what you are seeing is republicans in
looking at those numbers? there is more than that, that goes into the stew of whether he s reelected. republicans have not been able to put forth a candidate embraced by the american people and the economy is coming back and we have seen certain indicators, job growth, is taking place, granted more slowly, than we would like, and i don t think the republicans have to field a candidate, and then we d have a candidate to see whether or not somebody can actually beat the president. martha: ed, last 20 seconds, in terms of what the g.o.p. wants to do, cutting spending, will they get anywhere and impress voters with what they will do. i believe they will and cut their own budget in congress, which was major and paul ryan and his state of the union response, independent voters track closely with republican voters and we ll have an opportunity, it is february of the odd-numbered year and have ample time for republicans to find a nominee to give voice to our policies. good luck. martha
