Beef, dairy and sheep farmers need to be encouraged to change their land use to help slash methane emissions, with reductions urgently needed to avoid irreversible tipping points, environmentalist says. If the glacier – which is melting at an alarming rate – collapsed, scientists fear it would cause up to 3m of sea level rise, more than double the rise forecast this century.

Salmon says one of his proudest achievements is “having encouraged the environment movement, and primary sector organisations into a collaborative governance approach to things”. Over the last half a century he has held various positions as a policy advisor to successive governments and the boards of Crown entities, and membership of the Advisory Group on Green Growth and the Land and Water Forum.
