As Mission Health breaks ground in Franklin, service concerns linger View Comments As Mission Health breaks ground on the new Angel Medical Center, some in Franklin feel a new hospital won t address the health care issues in a community that s seen years of dwindling services.  On April 30, Mission broke ground on its new $68 million, 30-bed Angel Medical Center, which will replace the current hospital that opened in 1974.  Linda Tyler, a public health nurse in Macon County for 25 years who s now retired, is among those who don t think a new hospital will cure what ails the area s health care. She said like a lot of small hospitals, Angel Medical Center wasn t perfect, but folks there would work hard to make sure there was enough staffing and that people could get the services they needed.

Concerns go unanswered during HCA monitor meeting The public had a lot of questions during an April 7 virtual meeting regarding Mission Health’s services and operations since being bought by for-profit HCA Healthcare in 2019. Unfortunately, Gibbins Advisors  the independent monitor hired to ensure HCA fulfills its contractual obligations  couldn’t provide them with many answers. While the team of healthcare experts and accountants with Gibbins Advisors say they are continuously monitoring HCA operations at Mission-affiliated hospitals in Western North Carolina, their contractual scope is limited to the 15 commitments outlined in the purchase agreement between Mission and HCA, which was ultimately signed off on by Attorney General Josh Stein. 

Mission Health in Asheville to relax visitor policies starting Tuesday March 2, hospital says

Updated: 6:25 PM EST Mar 1, 2021 (Above video report on coronavirus numbers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia is for March 1,)A North Carolina hospital system announced Monday it was relaxing its visitor policy.Beginning Tuesday, March 2, Mission Health hospitals will allow two visitors per inpatients during regular visitor hours. Patients who are hospitalized overnight may have one visitor remain with them overnight. Outpatient surgery patients may have one visitor.Due to the high number of patients continuously being cared for at the Mission Hospital ER, these patients may have one visitor accompany them, the hospital said. ER patients at Angel Medical Center, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, Highlands-Cashiers Hospital, Mission Hospital McDowell, and Transylvania Regional Hospital may have two visitors with them. Three new COVID deaths reported in Macon

Three new COVID deaths reported in Macon Three Macon County residents diagnosed with COVID-19 have passed away. The persons were over the age of 65 and had underlying health conditions. To protect the family ́s privacy, no further information will be released about these patients. These deaths bring Macon County to 12 deaths related to COVID-19. “The family and loved ones of these individuals are in our thoughts and prayers. With the approaching New Year and as more people stay indoors, our community needs to continue to practice the 3Ws and be mindful of those that are higher risk,” stated Kathy McGaha, Macon County Health Director.
