By Oluwatope Lawanson Lagos, Feb. 2, 2021 Deputy Gov. Obafemi Hamzat of Lagos State on Tuesday said that effective mortgage system would be a sustainable solution to housing deficit in Nigeria.
Hamzat said this when management teams of Echostone Development Nig. Ltd. and IFC Edge paid him a courtesy visit at Alausa in Ikeja.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Echostone Development is a real estate development company that provides an innovative housing system to address large scale housing shortages.
IFC Edge is a member of the World Bank group that provides technical advisory to its investment clients, and advisory for the building sector.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed readiness of his administration to partner with foreign and local investors to provide unencumbered land for housing development on the basis of mutually agreed terms in reducing the housing deficit in this state.
Sanwo-Olu, who made the remarks on Wednesday, during the official commissioning of two LAGOSHOMS in Lekki Phase II and Iponri areas of Lagos, which comprises of 216 homes for prospective residents.
The event was also attended by the deputy governor, Dr. Femi Hamzat, members of the Stare Executive Council, All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftains and leaders, Local Government Chairmen, traditional rulers, stakeholders, among others.
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, inaugurated 84 housing units at Lekki Phase II, aimed at reducing the housing deficit in the state.
The project, LagosHOMS Lekki Phase II, located at Eti-Osa Local Government, consists of 84 home units, on a land expanse of 1.8 hectares.
Mr Sanwo-Olu said during the inauguration that it was in fulfilment of one of his administration’s promises in the housing sector to provide decent shelters for the people.
He said the promise was made out of the conviction that housing was one of the basic needs of humans and a critical factor that determined the quality of life.
