Over the weekend, the Afro Nation music festival made its way to Detroit — the second U.S. city to host the event, following Miami earlier this year. First launched in Portugal in 2019, the festival celebrates the sounds of the African diaspora, including genres like afrobeats, amapiano, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, and more, and the Motor City edition featured international acts like Burna Boy and DJ Maphorisa alongside local acts like DeJ Loaf and Ebony Riley. The festival was held at Bedrock’s Douglass Site, the former location of the Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects, where a number of Motown stars grew up. Here’s everything we saw.
