Dozens of veterinarians and volunteers have yet again given their time and skills to set up makeshift clinics in impoverished Cape communities to sterilise more than 1 500 pets in a collaborative programme between the City of Cape Town and animal welfare organisations.
The fiercest storm to hit the Western Cape in decades failed to dampen the spirits of a team of animal lovers, who dedicated their Heritage Day celebrations to pet sterilisation last month.

Veterinarians in the Helderberg Basin donated blood to a unique anti-rabies initiative last week, following a steep rise in rabies cases in the Western Cape. This is the first time an initiative of this kind has been seen in the province.
