With constant calls over the years from farmers for action to tackle the scourge of praedial larceny nationally, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is now seeking funds to resume the agricultural warden programme.
In addressing farmers at a graduation ceremony in Manchester recently, Gabrielle Hylton, Technical Advisor to Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Floyd Green, disclosed that when wardens are deployed into communities, they can assist in efforts to cauterise incidents of praedial larceny. That programme is a programme that is ran in support by the ministry (and) by the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force). They train persons just like they train police officers, and dem put dem in the field to help us tackle the issue of praedial larceny, which is one of the greatest challenges we have that prohibits people from getting into agriculture, she stated.
