Bail Set for the Suspect Who Engaged Police in an Hours-Long Standoff

Wright County Jail (KNSI) – A Wright County judge has set bail for the man accused of assaulting his wife, fleeing police, and engaging them in an hours-long standoff earlier this week. According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Dellwo’s home just after 8:00 Monday night after his wife called 911 to say he choked her. He fled the scene before police arrived, only to return about 12:20 a.m. Tuesday morning with a gun allegedly pointed at his head. He again fled the scene, but a deputy spotted him driving in Monticello and tried to stop his vehicle, but they say he ran, and police used tire spikes to get him to stop. The chase ended outside Eastview Elementary School.

Wright County Sheriff Releases More Information About the Suspect in Tuesday s Standoff

Wright County Jail (KNSI) – The Wright County Sheriff’s Office is releasing more information about the hours-long standoff in Monticello Tuesday. Police say they were called to a home in Albertville at 8:06 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic assault. When they arrived, they learned the 35-year-old suspect, Justin Dellwo, had fled the scene. After speaking with the wife, a “pick up and hold arrest order” was issued for felony-level domestic assault, but police didn’t know where the suspect was at the time. Police were again called to the home at 12:23 a.m. after Dellwo returned to the house with a gun, officers say he left before police arrived.

Officials say a man is in custody after an hours-long standoff with law enforcement that began early Tuesday morning in a Monticello neighborhood. According to a press release from the Wright County Sheriff s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home in Albertville shortly after 8 p.m. Monday on a reported domestic assault. A woman told law enforcement her husband had assaulted her, and then left the residence after she called 911.  Due to injuries suffered by the woman and information gathered while interviewing her, deputies said they issued a pickup order for the man for felony-level domestic assault. 

DEVELOPING: Police Are Engaged in a Standoff With a Domestic Assault Suspect

UPDATE: Posted 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, January 26th: (KNSI) – An hours-long standoff between a domestic assault suspect and the Wright County SWAT team is over. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office said the 35-year-old suspect had been in his van holding police at bay since about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Everything started just after 8:00 Monday night when a woman called 911 to say her husband had assaulted her and fled from their Albertville home. Police say the man returned about 12:20 a.m. and reportedly had a handgun with him but again left the home before police arrived. A deputy spotted his vehicle and attempted to pull him over, but the man refused, leading police on a chase that ended near Eastview Elementary School in Monticello, canceling classes for the day at that school and the area around it to go into lockdown.
