Taiwan s 5G users top 1 million in less than 6 months after launch

Taipei, Dec. 11 (CNA) In less than six months after the launch of 5G services in Taiwan, the number of users of the emerging technology in the country has surpassed 1 million, according to industry statistics.
Taiwan issued its first 5G license to Chunghwa Telecom Co., one of the five major Taiwanese telecom operators, in June, and the telecom service provider started its services in July.
Four other telecom operators Far EasTone Telecommunications Co., Taiwan Mobile Co., Taiwan Star Telecom Corp. and Asia Pacific Telecom Co. soon followed suit to start 5G services in the summer after securing their licenses.
FEIB gains open banking approval

Far Eastern International Bank (FEIB, 遠東國際商銀) yesterday became the nation’s first lender to gain regulatory approval to offer open banking services.
The medium-sized lender said it had been given the go-ahead by the Financial Supervisory Commission on Thursday to launch an account integration app, a new service provided in conjunction with affiliate Far EasTone Telecommunications Co (遠傳電信).
The move makes FEIB the nation’s first third-party service provider, as technology is reshaping the banking industry and more customers prefer online transactions, FEIB digital banking division head Simon Tai (戴松志) said.
