Easton Food Pantry, Stonehill, Bridgewater, Wheaton combat hunger

EASTON The Easton Food Pantry is one of a number of organizations that are serving the hungry in Massachusetts. Dan Guerin, the director of public relations for the Easton Food Pantry, said it all started in 1978 after a fire burned down a home and the family lost everything. The town staff set up a collection to help, and the pantry has been running ever since. “Easton has always been a caring town, and it has supported us in all that we do,” said Kenneth Wood, president and founder of the pantry. “It takes a village as they say, and that’s why we are successful. The greatest gift we can give is giving ourselves to others.”

Food insecurity amid COVID: Demand for help high at Easton pantry

EASTON  More than 150 families received Easter holiday meals from the Easton Food Pantry this week. The Easton Food Pantry distributed the meals, including included spiral hams donated by Roche Brothers, Monday in the Town Hall parking lot. As the COVID pandemic threw many people out of work, the food pantry saw the numbers of residents it serves increase over the past year and no decline is currently in sight, Wood said. The pantry distributes to 110 to 125 individuals and families each week. That number includes 35 who are veterans, disabled or homebound and receive home delivery. Prior to the pandemic, the pantry distributed to 75 to 80 families and individuals a week, according to Easton Food Pantry public relations volunteer Dan Guerin.
