Senate Introduces Resolution on 200 Years from Greek War of Independence

Philhellene U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-New Jersey), the new Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee introduced a bipartisan Senate resolution commemorating the Bicentennial of Greek Independence Day, which will occur on March 25, 2021.
The resolution, which was co-sponsored by Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) commemorates the two nations’ commitment to democracy as well as their firm partnership and warm history of friendship.

Senator Menendez, a longtime friend of Greece and a proponent of Greek national interests, stated at the resolution’s introduction: “It is with great pride that I stand with Greek Americans in New Jersey and across the country in celebrating a momentous anniversary: Greece’s 200th Independence Day.

Ambassador Vesko GarÄeviÄ, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, participated in the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Diplomacy Seminar. The event was a collaboration between Emmanuel College’s Institute of Eastern Mediterranean Studies (IEMS), The Fletcher Initiative on Religion, Law and Diplomacy, the Fletcher School, Tufts University, and the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration, Romania.

It is recalled that in Senator Menendez led the effort to pass the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act (EastMed Act). The law envisions a new strategy based on US cooperation with the region’s three states, Greece, Israel and Cyprus. Robert Menendez asked him how he would continue to strengthen the investments described in the Act and the critical security relations with Greece and Cyprus.
