Does the Eastern Partnership Have a Future? Five Special Events with Top European and American Experts 8 March 2021 Exclusive series of five meetings with Transatlantic speakers on the future of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries. Instead of the EU’s postponed EaP summit, Visegrad Insight together with the German Marshall Fund of the US (Black Sea Trust) organises an international community online summit to discuss pressing challenges for Eastern Europe. During the week of 15-19 March, we will discuss in five meetings the validity of the EaP framework for the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, explore new policy directions for a dynamically changing international environment and put a spotlight on societal and economic trends that are often manifested only at hard-to-foresee events in the region.

Laudatio by Václav Klaus: Tamás Deutsch - the 2020 Petöfi Prize Winner As a 2018 Petöfi Prize laureate, I am greatly honoured to be asked to deliver the laudatio for this year’s winner of the Petöfi Prize, the distinguished Hungarian politician and true Central European, Tamás Deutsch. I do not have the slightest doubts about this year’s choice. The jury organized by the Public Foundation for the Research of Central and Eastern European History and Society selected the right person – someone who is from the region, someone who is a genuine Central European, someone who – by his brave and productive activities in the last more than three decades – has made history.

On this day, Bulgaria acted on its 2019 ultimatum of over 20 items to Skopje, and vetoed the highly anticipated opening of EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia. Prior to this decision, the Bulgarian government and the country’s political elite loudly complained that the EU is unable to understand Bulgarian history and Sofia’s position on North Macedonia, which is “surprising,” because the “Bulgarian
