NEWCOMERSTOWN When an event draws enough people to create a traffic jam, it’s a success. And that was what the Easter Experience hosted by the Home Plate Project became on Saturday, March 27, at Cy Young Park.
The free event by the community ministry program included free food, prizes (including bicycles and Easter baskets), and thousands of Easter eggs.
A crowd estimated at over 1,000 jammed into Cy Young Park with plenty of children, parents and grandparents coming to enjoy a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. Traffic was backed up to College Street prior to the event and cars were parked everywhere at the park. One of those attending was almost in awe when they arrived, saying, “I didn’t know there were this many people in Newcomerstown.”

NEWCOMERSTOWN Mayor Pat Cadle said the village has been making plans for a boat ramp to be installed on the southside along the Tuscarawas River at the former Simonds factory site.
“We have been working with engineers on the boat ramp project,” Mayor Cadle reported recently. “The spring weather will have the greatest effect on how quickly anything gets done. The snow melt helps, but not if we get too much rain. The trees have to be out by April 1 by ODNR‘s rules due to a bat that nests in river trees in the spring. The street department (Bob Shepherd) will be removing about 100 feet of heavy brush along the river to complete the river path walk. The initial path will just be an oval along the river, the elevated road between the two former lagoons and back to the ramp where there will be parking.”
