House fire in North East displaces four people

NORTH EAST - A blaze destroyed a home in North East on Friday morning, displacing four people and causing approximately $400,000 in damage, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal. One of the residents called 911 at 6:35 a.m., after the occupants discovered fire inside their home in the unit block of Valley Forge Drive, fire officials reported. The occupants discovered the fire and attempted to extinguish it with a portable fire extinguisher. The fire rapidly spread beyond their control and they exited the home, an MOSFM spokesman said, adding that no one was injured during the incident. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents - three adults and one child, according to fire officials.

Fire damages detached garage near North East

NORTH EAST — An investigation is continuing after a blaze gutted a detached garage on a residential property near North East over the weekend, causing approximately $100,000 in damage, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal. An occupant of the nearby residence called 9:01 p.m. on Sunday night, after discovering the burning outbuilding in the 700 block of Shady Beach Road, which is off Route 272 (Turkey Point Road), south of North East, fire officials reported. “The occupants smelled smoke and saw an orange glow on the woods in the back of their residence, so they went outside the investigate,” said Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Derek Chapman, who is supervisor of the agency’s Northeastern Regional Office.
