is catholicism grows. yeah. this is an opportunity to show the vibrancy of this church. there s a lot of positive stories, of hopeful stories, people engage in really positive charity work, people living out their faith and this is an opportunity for pope francis to see this firsthand and for the world to see the catholic church in the united states is a strong, vibrant community. the weird picture you just saw is madison square garden with the lights down. we re boosting it a little bit electronically but the pictures are dark in there and the pope is arriving. live pictures i believe of the pope arriving outside. oh, that s a uni lat, but the pope is arriving at madison square garden. i ve just seeing it on a local channel. if we can go back to that big map that we were showing you earlier, the google map that we got, see the red lines along the east side of manhattan. these red lines along the east
the crowds have been incredible. most americans don t think much about the u.n. yeah, it s there on the east side of new york, but it s not really a big focus of the country but it s still important to the world and to europe and certainly to the developing world. i think he s using this lectern, this podium, if you will, because he knowing everything he says will be broadcast to every country in the world. when you go to a state capital, you want to go to the state capital press corps, albany, harris, wherever, that s a way to get to the state. i think they ve done this really, really well in terms of press advance. peter alexander standing by for us outside. how do we expect this address to the entire u.n. to be different from the address yesterday that was made before that joint session of congress? i think obviously there will be a lot of similarities.
side, this is manhattan over here. this is fdr drive, the east side of manhattan. roosevelt island in the middle and outer boreughs here. rather than taking the avenues, which is come this is msg, it s hard to see from being so close, but msg is just down here somewhere. can anybody find it for me? 34th street. i could have just straight down the avenue, but instead they came over here, no doubt, in case anybody was wanting to do him some harm. you don t have to follow me. you can stay over there. father, this mass is going to begin pretty quickly, and the message is similar tonight to the others. we ve had messages of hope, and faith and charity and being good to those who need help, and one that i thought has been really interesting and he s treaded the fine line of it all is life.
has been a necessaryt positive for the republican party. do you agree if. i do. i don t agree with everything donald trump says but he s making other republicans go off their talking points he s appealing to real people. i m saying this as a new yorker. he may be a billionaire from the east side of manhattan but he talks like the guys i grew up with in queens or brooklyn he talks like a real person. how this is going to play out between now and the primaries i don t know. i think he s forcing the other candidates to be more real and to get off their talking points and address issues that the american people are concerned about. you haven t endorsed anybody yet? no. sounds like you like donald trump. listen, i like him. he s contributed to my campaigns. when i was having the islamist radicalization hearings he was one of the only people in public life who strongly defended me. i think governor bush is a good candidate, marco rubio, john kasich, carly fiorina.
more. logon to cnn.com/impact to find out more how you can help. protesters fill the streets of major u.s. cities for a third night demanding police reform and accountability. some of the biggest protests were in chicago where people marched through the upscale shopping district along lakeshore drive. they ended up outside the city s police headquarters. a number of people were arrested. in washington, demonstrators blocked traffic for hours in chinatown. they would lie down in the middle of the street in what they called a die-in. crowds shut down a major interstate highway in miami also. it was a rainey night in new york. that kept many protesters at home. chris welsh was out on the streets with the demonstrators and talked with us earlier from the east side of manhattan. tonight was a very different night than the last two nights, a much calmer night. you can see around me right now, it s very clearly raining.
