Pandemic Pick: What Outdoor Art Installation Inspired You During the Pandemic?

With more than 50 large-scale sculptures scattered atop picturesque fields, Lemon Fair Sculpture Park "is a hidden gem in Addison County," wrote one Seven Days reader. East Shoreham residents and art enthusiasts Frank and Elaine Ittleman first opened their property to the public in 2016 for free, self-guided tours along a mowed path — and they've continued to welcome visitors, in season, throughout the pandemic. One Vermonter summed up the experience: "Being able to walk with a friend outdoors amongst these giant art installations was a wonderful way to be able to socialize safely."

Hero Little Boy & Mom Save Neighbor Family From Fire

By Anthony Fillippleo May 7, 2021 A woman in East Shoreham, New York, and her family were able to escape an early morning house fire thanks to their neighbors. Danielle Apryl had no idea flames were engulfing part of her home until a woman started banging on the door and yelling to alert them to the fire. Thanks to the warning, Apryl was able to get her one-year-old son out safely and wake her wife and in-laws and their three dogs, who all made it out without injury. The mom credits her quick-thinking neighbor for saving her family and it turns out, it was a family effort. The neighbor - who wishes to remain anonymous - found out about the fire because her four-year-old son was playing outside when he saw the blaze break out and then shouted to his mom to “call the firemen!”

Roosevelt enacted the New Deal to get the United States out of the Great Depression. “We also had, back then, they called it the poor house. Nowadays they call it the food shelf,” Rouse said. “We had commodities like canned peaches, cans of peanut butter, for everybody. At the time the Depression was going on, those were years we can’t forget. It lives in your heart forever.”
