Two missionaries serving full-time missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas Fort Worth Mission lost their lives in a two-vehicle crash in Denton, Texas on May 18.
“We are saddened to share news of the passing of two young missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who were killed in a head-on traffic collision on Tuesday in Denton, Texas,” said Church spokesman Sam Penrod in a statement released on May 19.

My history writing buddy, Marvin Gorley, has never understood my dislike of this county being named for Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar, even though our most famous artist alumnus, William Henry Huddle, and his cousin, F.J. Fisher, painted both the former Republic of Texas president and his brother, Lucius Cincinnatus Lamar.
But, there are many negatives with the personality and actions of the president, not to mention Parisians and even those from his home area of Richmond, Texas, have never been able to decide upon just how to pronounce his name. It was with great relief when the shopping center moguls in East Paris decided to take his name off the signs. New announcers at local radio stations will never have to go through the pain of trying to say My-ree-bo, Mear-a-bo, or even the worst, Mare-a-boo.

MUSKEGON, Mich. It was a crazy 24 hours for Lakeshore resident Amanda Kohnke. Why would somebody do this? she asked. It s hard not to be angry over this.
Just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, Kohnke got a call from Diane Valk, president of Heaven Can Wait Animal Haven, asking for her help. Valk told her there were kittens left in a shopping cart outside of the Dollar Tree on East Sherman Boulevard.

As a child in the 2nd ward, local activist Darlene Cannon said she felt surrounded by a warm community.
“When I was growing up with all of my neighbors, we were more of a true village,” Cannon said. “So everyone was always looking out for one another.”
This year, the third-generation Evanston resident said she is pushing to bring dialogue and participation back to the forefront of the 2nd ward in her race against incumbent Ald. Peter Braithwaite (2nd) in the upcoming municipal election.
Cannon is a member of the Democratic Party of Evanston, a founding member of grassroots coalition group Evanston United and the founder of Feeding the Village Evanston. If elected to the position, Cannon promises to advocate for racial justice, remedy housing inequity and increase dialogue with residents.
