Senate President files bill to ban people from carrying guns on school grounds
The Harold M. Metts School Safety Act applies allows for exceptions for security and law enforcement.

PROVIDENCE â Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio has introduced a bill to ban carrying concealed guns on school grounds.
The Harold M. Metts School Safety Act of 2021 â named for the former Providence senator who tried for years to pass this legislation â eliminates an exception in the state law on concealed carry firearms, making it clear that they may not be carried on school grounds. The only exceptions are police officers, retired officers, and those contracted to provide sec
