MARIETTA Washington County residents had the opportunity to safely recycle unwanted items during a recycling drop-off event as part of the Marietta Earth Day Celebration on Saturday.
Calling it the “Hard to Recycle Materials Event,” residents were allowed to donate items that are not normally allowed to be recycled due to unsafe chemicals in the materials or for those just wanting their items to go to the right place, according to Kathy Ortt, Marietta Earth Day Celebration committee member.

In times of social distancing, how does a public park project and monument owned by the City of Marietta see public engagement in decision-making?
“This is a more sophisticated version that you see of a lot of the city council meetings where they’re just doing Zoom meetings,” prefaced Kellie Grob, of 1218 Marketing and Communications LLC. “This is a software program that the Ohio Department of Transportation uses that allows the presenters to present and share slides and different things. And then it allows anybody in the public to interact, either through phone, email or chat box.”

Cause Connector is a giving website that connects people who want to make a difference with local, non-profit projects working in Appalachian Ohio’s communities. There will be a joint meeting of the Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) and the Guernsey County Planning Commission at 8 a.m., on Friday, at the county Administration Building in the first floor conference room. The administration building is located at 627 Wheeling Ave. Note the change in location for this meeting only.
Public Vet coming to Old Washington
The Public Vet will be in Old Washington on Feb. 27. Kittens 6 weeks or older and any male or female cat under 6 years of age can be spayed or neutered with a pain shot for $80. Wild felines must be in a live trap and are $40. Participants must register at pub.vet. Immunizations and other services are available. Unregistered persons will not be accepted.
