Indictments returned against suspects in 1997 Lubbock homicide Two men arrested in January in connection with the 23-year old homicide case of a man who was gunned down in front of his East Lubbock home were indicted Tuesday by a Lubbock County grand jury.  Pedro Erevia, 47, and Fabian Madrid, 44, are charged with murder in connection with the Sept. 9 1997 shooting death of 26-year-old Steven Earl Johnson.  The men were identified as suspects in Johnson s slaying after witnesses provided sworn statements that helped investigators identify Erevia and Madrid as Johnson s killers.  Officers responding to a shots fired call about 12:45 a.m. in the 2700 block of East Colgate Street found Johnson lying in front of his residence.

Police seek tips in deadly East Lubbock hit-and-run crash A-J Media The Lubbock Police Department is requesting the public’s help to provide more information about a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman in a motorized wheelchair last May in East Lubbock. The crash occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. May 6, 2020, in the 1900 block of East 1st Place, according to a Lubbock police news release. Through the initial investigation, officers determined that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Zenith Avenue and turned westbound onto Auburn Street, when it struck 52-year-old Lydia Lopez and her motorized wheelchair. The driver failed to stop and render aid and fled the area.

So far eight homes have been built by volunteers and homeowners are participating in financial literacy classes and workshops to upkeep their new home. Eventually, 80 homes are expected to be built in the Talkington Addition with the hope of bringing more economic opportunities to East Lubbock.
