Jude Mercer
Jude Mercer has been selected as Scholar of the Month for January at East Liverpool High School. Jude is the son of Suzanne and John Mercer. Jude ranks in the top 20% of his senior class with a GPA of 3.686, taking a combination of Advanced Placement and College Credit Plus courses. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and has received All-Academic Honors for soccer and tennis for the past four years. Jude is a member of the tennis and soccer teams, winning the OVAC Championship for soccer, and he is a member of the Outdoor Adventure Club, Booster Club, and Student Council, serving as Treasurer of the Class of 2021 for two years.

EAST LIVERPOOL Kayla Wiley has been named Scholar of the Month for December at East Liverpool High School. Kayla is the daughter of Mark and Amy Wiley and ranks in the Top 20 in her graduating class, with a 3.818 Cumulative GPA, taking Honors, AP, and Career Tech classes.
Kayla is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Speech and Debate Honor Society, and is a former member of the Tri-M National Music Honor Society. She serves as the Speech and Debate Interpretation Captain, and she served 4 years on yearbook staff, this year serving as Yearbook Editor. She was a Junior Representative for Skills USA, and is an active member of Gaming Club, Photography Club, Outdoor Adventure Club, and Student Council. Kayla was selected as a delegate to Buckeye Girls’ State.

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE Benjamin J. Danzo joined his parents and two brothers in Heaven on January 6, 2021. His passing was due to complications of COVID-19.
He was born in East Liverpool, OH on November 24, 1941, the son of Nellie and Antonio Danzo. Upon graduation from St. Aloysius School, he followed a call from God and enrolled in the Seminary of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers (Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America). In 1959, after two-and-a-half years at Seminary, Ben returned to East Liverpool to graduate from East Liverpool High School.
Always striving for more education, he attended and graduated from the Ohio Valley Business College, which prepared him to work in the office at Crucible Steel in Midland, PA. To pursue his love of science, Ben left the work force and enrolled in the College of Steubenville, from where he graduated in 1965. His next educational pursuit was met by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Biology in 1967 from the Univers

Alexis Arlene “Lexi” “Lexi Bug” Hawkins, 26, of Washingtonville, OH, passed away at her home on Thursday evening, December 31, 2020.
She was born on October 4, 1994 in Alliance, OH to her parents, Mark Hawkins of Salem, OH and Lorrie (Cunningham) (R. “RJ” Johnson) Wagner of East Liverpool, OH.
Lexi was 2013 graduate of East Liverpool High School. Upon graduation, she received her STNA certification and found employment at Sunrise Home. Additionally, she worked at Subway in Newell, Arbys in Salem, and Papa Johns in East Liverpool where she learned to be quick and hustle to get the job done. Alexis relaxed by watching TV and movies. Her favorite TV show was Grey’s Anatomy and her favorite movie was “Nightmare Before Christmas.” She also enjoyed spending time outdoors.
