DeKALB – A group of classmates were determined to bring a school project to fruition by restoring the East Lagoon. The student-led project of saving the East Lagoon from deterioration began on May 4. The lagoon has experienced extreme erosion around the shoreline and is reported to be polluted with nutrient runoff after water quality.
DeKALB – SGA Senator Jacob Jovanovich, chair of environmental affairs and junior accounting major, organized a cleanup of the area around Cole Hall’s fountain in honor of this week being Earth Week at NIU. Jovanovich arrived at 3 p.m. (the start time of the cleanup) carrying plastic garbage bags, garbage pick-up sticks; he wore black.
DeKALB – NIU’s school colors are black and cardinal red, but a new student organization thinks green should be considered. Go Green, Go Clean is an environmentalist organization that was founded to protect the environment of NIU’s campus. The organization was founded by its current President and Vice President, Marissa Di Zillo and Erik Gibbons.
DeKALB – This week the NIU Art Museum will reveal exhibits meant to be love letters to the passions of collecting art. Two new exhibits are set to open March 30 at the NIU Art Museum at Altgeld Hall. Before the exhibits open, a public reception will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..
