(RNS) New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, by a vote of 8-2 on Jan. 10, granted the church’s request for a ‘certificate of appropriateness’ to take down the façade.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. could never have transformed America without beloved community. On this national day of remembrance to honor Dr. King’s life and teachings, we need to rebuild it again, most especially between Black people, Jewish people, and Black Jewish people.
A relationship has blossomed between the synagogue and the church, which has remained homeless due to the six-alarm fire that destroyed most of the building in 2020.
