Three-day closure at London King s Cross station in June

A major milestone was reached last month when platforms 0-6 reopened and work began on platforms 7-11. Network Rail owns, operates and develops Britain s railway infrastructure. Ed Akers, principal programme sponsor for Network Rail’s East Coast Upgrade, said: “Major progress is being made every day at King’s Cross as we complete work across the second half of the station and fast approach June 7. “Upgrading the track layout will allow more trains to enter and exit the station, reduce congestion and bring more reliable journeys. With just one three-day closure to go, we want to thank passengers for their continued patience throughout the project.”

LNER reintroduces some of Azuma Hitachi Class 800 trains | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

A LEADING train operator has reintroduced a number of services after safety issues arose last week. London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has returned some of its Hitachi Class 800 trains, known as its Azuma fleet, to the network today, after precautionary checks were completed. Many of the trains were removed from service last week for safety checks after cracks were discovered in the railed vehicles.  But Hitachi, train operators and the Government, with oversight from the rail regulator, have since agreed and implemented a service recovery plan for the safe reintroduction of the Class 800 trains. This will help get more passengers moving on the rail network and LNER expects to operate a robust weekday timetable from today.

Drainage work between Preston and Carnforth will disrupt Northern services in the area on Sunday and Monday. While Avanti West Coast, which normally operates long-distance services between London and Scotland via Birmingham and north-west England, warned that “journeys will take longer and may involve a rail replacement service”. It added: “We strongly advise you travel either side of the bank holiday weekend.”
