Sheriff misinformed on BLM - The Ellsworth American

Sheriff misinformed on BLM Dear Editor: It comes as a great surprise to me that Sheriff Scott Kane could get himself into such a knuckle-headed dilemma. Black Lives Matter is not a “terrorist group.” It is not listed by any terrorist watch organization as such. It has promoted a process of reducing the funding of police departments and shifting those resources to more social support programs instead. This process is known as “defunding the police.” It is an idea. It is part of a national conversation. It is provocative and may contain valid points and proposals. It is a conversation to which one can listen. Listen!

Solar moratorium vote scheduled in Blue Hill - The Ellsworth American

Solar moratorium vote scheduled in Blue Hill February 3, 2021 on News BLUE HILL The town of Blue Hill is holding a special town meeting by secret ballot to decide whether or not to enact a Moratorium Ordinance Regarding Commercial Solar Activities. Voting will be on Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at George Stevens Academy. The ordinance, which is available on the town website, would give Blue Hill six months to amend its Land Use Ordinance to address solar developments. As a result of the Maine Legislature’s net energy billing legislation, “developers have expressed interest in and aggressively pursued the development of commercial solar facilities throughout the state of Maine, including in the town,” the ordinance states. Furthermore, the town’s existing ordinance “is insufficient to prevent serious public harm that could result from the siting, installation and operation of commercial solar facilities within the town.”
