THREE million pound ‘pioneering’ project plans to integrate a GP surgery and council services at the revamped Britwell Centre. Slough Borough Council has been working with the East Berkshire Clinical Commissioning Group to transform the centre on Wentworth Avenue to provide improved health and council services in the heart of the estate. This would include extending the Britwell Centre as well as revamping it to provide a brand new, state of the art facility for the Avenue Medical Centre – which is currently sited on the other side of Wentworth Avenue. The new health services that come with the refurbished centre include mental health and counselling, maternity, physiotherapy, dermatology, vaccination clinics, and more.

She claims there is a lack of blood tests available in Bracknell Forest, which GP surgeries are overseen under East Berkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The woman reportedly claims East Berkshire CCG has instructed their supplies to only allow urgent tests to be carried out. She said: This is very alarming as trying to obtain a blood test has become extremely challenging since October 2020 as hospitals only do appointments instead of walk in. This new initiative from the CCG only came into force a week ago. Personally I don’t understand the concept of this as blood tests are only ever ordered by the clinician for a reason. Are they trying to save money or are the laboratories over whelmed?
. In September, councillors approved plans to remodel the Britwell Community Centre’s halls to make room for both the Avenue Medical Centre and Britwell Clinic. This transformation work on the community centre is estimated to be £3 million – which part of it will be funded by NHS England’s Estate Technology and Transformation fund. The council says the current Avenue Medical Centre’s premises are too small for their registered patient list of 7,432 and by relocating to this ‘Britwell Hub’, all the services they offer will be in a single ‘modern fit for purpose’ building and be delivered in an integrated way.
