CBC is offering a week-long slate of programming in recognition of Earth Week 2022, running from April 18-22 and culminating on Earth Day, the largest civic observance in the world now in its 52nd year, on Friday, April 22. CBC will offer Canadians thoughtful and engaging original content about the environment and climate change for all ages across multiple platforms, in addition to its year-round commitment to cover the latest environmental developments under the banner of Our Changing Planet.
April 22 marked the 51st anniversary of Earth Day. It also kicked off a two-day virtual climate summit hosted by President Joe Biden, in which 40 world leaders discussed plans to take action on climate change. The combination of the climate summit and the general Earth Day commemoration led to substantial climate and environmental-related coverage on major broadcast and cable TV networks.
Corporate broadcast TV morning and nightly news shows on ABC, CBS, and NBC aired a combined 26 climate and environmental segments across 82 minutes on Earth Day. Original programming on CNN and MSNBC aired a combined 38 segments across 186 minutes just over three hours. (The other major cable network, Fox, spent all of Earth Day attacking actions taken to address climate change.)
LANSDALEÂ â Students at York Avenue Elementary School spent their Earth Day making the outside, and the inside of their school a little greener.
Fourth, fifth, and sixth-graders spent Thursday morning raking, shoveling, picking up and planting, for an Earth Day school beautification project, while smaller students learned what it takes to go green. I don t think we really care too much about the cold day, because we re just happy to be outside. The sun is shining, and we are really looking forward to seeing the finished product of a beautiful school, said school Acting Principal Nicole Berical.

Thursday s planting marked another day in a week full of Earth Day-related activities, including a walk around the school on Monday, lessons on how to save the planet on Tuesday, a Wildlife Wednesday lesson on different habitats, and a planned Wildflower Friday live assembly with a local beekeeper.
